1928Bound Theatre Magazines
Volume 47
January through June
What an extraordinary collection of theater life in the late 1920’s. These six bound magazines are loaded with pictures of the stage stars from that theater heyday.
Featured in color on the covers January through June are
Ann Harding, Lynn Fontanne, John Barrymore, Judith Anderson, Peggy Wood
and
Ina Claire
. - all giants in the field of acting.
Some of the article titles:
* “The Actor is More Important Than the Play”
* ”The Triumphant Genius of
Eugene O’Neill
”
* “Music and the Motion Picture”
* “Should Drama Critics be Abolished?”
* “New York’s Exotic Chinese Theatre”
* “Getting a Play on Broadway”
Anyone interested late 1920’s fashion surely would love to see the fashion layouts in these magazines - as well as
Bonwit Teller, Mallisons, L.O. Thompson
and other retail clothing advertisements.
In addition to the fashion ads there are a number of full-page advertisements (some in color) for automobiles -
Packard, Pierce Arrow
and
Cadillac
and cigarettes - namely
Camel
and
Lucky Strike.
For being nearly 100 years old these magazines are remarkably well preserved. There are 450+ pages. There is normal age darkening and/or yellowing on some pages but nothing stands out so much that it detracts from the attractiveness of this volume of magazines. I didn’t see any tears or ink/pencil marks on pages. Two of the covers have tape on bottom right. a Each cover has the previous owner's s stamp. (Check my pictures.). The tape marks shadow on the pages afore and after.
Pages measure about 9 ½ by 12 ½ inches. The maroon hard cover has slightly larger dimensions.
The cover exhibits wear along the its edges and particularly at the top and bottom of the bumped spines. The front cover is slightly bent and it is coming loose from the body.
Also, listed at this same time are the bound magazines for July through December 1928 (Volume 48).
