Description
From the residual stock of a New England antiques dealer retired to Tucson some years ago is this 19th Century American Civil War era love token cravat stick pin, crafted from a silver half dime. The period gentleman's or soldier's necessity mounts the coin to an appropriate brass pin, the planed obverse face engraved with a well accomplished script "C". For those who know this circular configuration denoted the 1st Corps within the wartime Army of the Potomac - silver or "white" for the 2nd Division. In the least (and whether sported about by some serving Federal soldier or foppish gent of the time), its wearer was likely a city boy and certainly no vagrant. Weight is good for the form at about 1.7 grams on my portable digital scale. Condition is quite fine with a nice aura of time to the surfaces. Looking at the reverse, the coin was apparently not long in circulation. The brass pin is a bit wonky from period service, though ready for more. A look at the pics should give a good idea of appearance and condition. Size of the half dime is about 15.5mm. The whole ornament is about 2 22/32 in. measured vertical. The actual pin about 2 17/32 in.. I don't know what else need be said, so there you are.Payment Terms
