Chukwuma Okorafor Western Michigan Broncos Game Worn & Signed Black Adidas Freak CleatChukwuma Okorafor is an offensive tackle for the Pittsburgh Steelers of the National Football League (NFL). He was drafted by the Steelers in the 3rd Round of the 2018 NFL Draft. Okorafor played college football for Western Michigan where he started for three full seasons (2015-2017).
Okorafor held college offers from Oklahoma, Florida, Nebraska, Arkansas, and Iowa, but elected to sign with Western Michigan in 2013. The Southfield, MI resident chose a program closer to home and found instant success in Kalamazoo. Despite all of the prestigious offers, Okorafor wasn't familiar with the game of football until high school. He moved to the United States from Botswana in 2010, previously living in Nigeria and South Africa. Okorafor grew up playing soccer.
Okorafor has outstanding footwork for a player of his size. With faster, athletic defensive ends becoming a staple in college football, Okorafor countered these opponents with his impressive combination of strength and speed. Gifted with decent agility, he also has the ability to plow over defenders. Okorafor is especially proficient in the run game, where he blocked for a Western Michigan offense that produced 3,194 rushing yards (12th in FBS) and 36 touchdowns (tied for ninth) in 2016.
In 2017, Okorafor was recognized among the nation's top players at his position by the Football Writers Association of America. After earning second team All-American honors from Walter Camp and Sports Illustrated, Okorafor's FWAA nod makes him WMU's second first-team selection in two years, with current Tennessee Titans receiver Corey Davis earning consensus All-American honors in 2016.
The 6-foot-6, 330-pound lineman helped the Broncos rush for 224.8 yards per game, which ranked 23rd nationally. The WMU offensive line also limited opponents to 22 sacks and 12 quarterback hurries in 12 games. Okorafor also accepted an invitation to play in the 2018 Reese’s Senior Bowl in Mobile, Alabama, but did not play due to a minor injury.
