    Description

Impressive Pair English Britannia 958 Silver Queen Anne Style Shakers Casters
Presented is a wonderful pair of English Britannia silver shakers or casters.
These casters are dated 1924 and were made by the Crichton Bros. Though the
shakers are from the 20th century, they are made emulating much older Queen Anne
style pieces, as you'd see from circa 1710-1720. In keeping with that style, the
shakers are made from Britannia standard silver, which was in use at the time,
rather than sterling. It's worth noting that Britannia (958) is a higher purity
standard than sterling (925). The shakers are very well made and of a truly
impressive weight, with a great feeling of quality in the hand.
Each shaker is hallmarked with the seated Britannia mark for 958 purity
silver, the lion's head erased for the city of London, the date letter I for
1924, and the maker's mark for Crichton Bros. These marks also appear on the lip
of the lid, which we show in the photographs. The undersides are also marked
Crichton & Co and Made in England.
This pair is in excellent overall condition. There is only minor surface
wear. The lids fit well. There are no splits, no dents, no breaks, no monograms,
no monogram removals, and no repairs.
Each shaker stands about 4 5/8 inches tall.
The total weight for the pair is 323 grams or 11.4 regular ounces.
