Marcel Marceau
(22 March 1923 – 22 September 2007) was a French actor and mime artist most famous for his stage persona, "Bip the Clown.” He referred to mime as the "art of silence" and he performed professionally worldwide for over 60 years. As a Jewish youth, he lived in hiding and worked with the French Resistance during most of World War II, giving his first major performance to 3,000 troops after the liberation of Paris in August 1944.Following the war, he studied dramatic art and mime in Paris. In 1959, he established his own pantomime school in Paris, and subsequently set up the Marceau Foundation to promote the art in the U.S. Among his various awards and honors he was made "Grand Officier de la Légion d'Honneur" (1998) and was awarded the National Order of Merit (1998) in France. He won the Emmy Award for his work on television, was elected member of the Academy of Fine Arts in Berlin and was declared a "National treasure" in Japan. He was friends with Michael Jackson for nearly 20 years and Jackson said he used some of Marceau's techniques in his own dance steps.
Gilles Ségal
(13 January 1929 – 11 June 2014) was a French actor, mime, and playwright. He performed on stage with Marcel Marceau, and in more than sixty films since 1954. Among his most notable roles is that of one of the heist participants in Jules Dassin's Topkapi.
Paul Marie Pierre Verry
(26 November 1913 - 3 October 2009) was a French actor. Most of his career was devoted to the art of mime, alongside Marcel Marceau.
Charles Kiffer-Porte
(8 June 1902 – 20 January 1992) studied at the the Ecole Nationale Supérieure des Beaux Arts in Paris. He his own lithographs from 1929, often illustrating posters for stars like George Guétary, Charles Trenet, Edith Piaf, Yves Montand and Gaby Morley. He also designed for dance, theatre, and circus productions, occasionally for big names such as Josephine Baker, Brigitte Bardot, Mistinguette and the clown Alex Porto.
George Tscherny
(born July 12, 1924) is a Hungarian-born American graphic designer and educator. Tscherny has received the highest honors among graphic designers. He was awarded the AIGA Medal in 1988, celebrated in the annual Masters Series in 1992 at the School of Visual Arts, and inducted into the Art Directors Club Hall of Fame in 1997.
