    Description

This is a rare August 28th, 1943 issue of "CUE" magazine, the complete entertainment guide for New York City. This issue featured actress SUSAN MILLER (shown in the cover photo) who was replaced out-of-town during the tryouts of the new IRVING CAESAR, GERALD MARKS and SAMUEL LERNER musical comedy "MY DEAR PUBLIC" which would open September 9th, 1943 at New York's 46th Street Theatre. (The production initially opened March 3rd, 1942 at the Shubert Theatre in New Haven, Connecticut and followed with brief engagements in Boston and Philadelphia. The show closed in Philadelphia and it would be a year and a half before producer IRVING CAESAR would again attempt to get the musical onto a Broadway stage. A completely revised production would finally open September 9th, 1943 at the 46th Street Theatre in New York City and close after only 45 performances.) ..... The musical starred WILLIE HOWARD and featured SUSAN MILLER (replaced out-of-town by NANETTE FABRAY), ETHEL SHUTTA, ERIC BROTHERSON, GEORGIE TAPPS, DAVID BURNS, RENEE RUSSELL, LOUISE FISKE, MITZI PERRY, SHERLE NORTH, GORDON GIFFORD, WILLIAM NUNN, JESSE WHITE, AL KELLY, ROSE BROWN, DAVE HAMILTON, JANICE WALLACE, ANN MIDDLETON, BETTY BURNS and PAUL VINCENT ..... CREDITS: Music and Lyrics by IRVING CAESAR, GERALD MARKS and SAMUEL LERNER; Book by IRVING CAESAR and CHARLES GOTTESFELD; Sets designed by ALBERT JOHNSON; Costumes designed by LUCINDA BALLARD; Choreographed by FELICIA SOREL; Staged by EDGAR MacGREGOR; Produced by IRVING CAESAR ..... DETAILS: The oversized 34 page magazine measures 8 1/4" X 11 1/4" inches and includes the wonderful cover photo of SUSAN MILLER with a "Cover Correction" at the bottom of the first inside page (second scanned image) and a further explanation for the magazine having published a photo of someone no longer in the production (third scanned image). Also includes reviews of Broadway and Off-Broadway plays, TV and Radio programs, Sports, Art Shows, Music and other goings-on. (Note: This magazine belonged to Producer OSCAR SERLIN who at the time was enjoying the success of his production, "Life With Father" which ran for over seven years and became the
    longest-running non-musical play on Broadway
, a record that still stands. Serlin's address label is on the front cover.)
