Description
Hello! You're looking at a listing for one Vintage Restored Conklin BCHR With Gold Overlay Semiflexible F-B fountain pen.
I received this from an elderly gentleman who wanted to see me sell it to a new owner, and I told him I would make it close to how it was when it was new. When I received it, it was in very bad shape. There were gouges along it, the gold was super tarnished and dark, and the lock ring and broken interior sac was a total mess.
Painstakingly I brought this pen back to life. Please take a look at the photos to your best discretion as they are considered part of the lifting for descriptive purposes, and you will see how much care has gone into it.
It has been carefully cleared of the previous ink and broken sac, and a brand new latex sac of proper size has been installed.
This nib is in excellent shape and you will find it in excellent condition: clean and beautifully bright. It is semi-flexible, and it writes from an extra fine line all the way up to a bold. Please be gentle due to its age, but, it still is very functional, smooth and a joy to write with. It responds very well. I wouldn't personally put shimmering ink in this pen, but that is up to you.
I have not re-blacked it because opinions on the re blackening process for black chased hard rubber pens seems to be divided among the greater fountain pen community- while there are people who love it there are also people that absolutely abhor it. On top of this I do not have that particular skill. So, you will find this pen had experienced some fading over its time with the previous owner.
Please know that it still has two horizontal scratches near the midsection, from the previous owner, and may have additional smaller scratches under the overlay that I couldn't see. Also note the lock ring is missing a triangular chip out of it on both ends. Despite this it still works, yet care should be taken as it is fragile. This lock ring fits and is removable by sliding off of the barrel. However, the pressure bar will jostle the ink sac very lightly without a lock ring present, and trigger ink spill issues if you keep the lock ring off. I went through quite a lot of effort and travel trying to find a better one with which to replace it and wasn't able to due to the rarity of this pen. Besides these minor cosmetic details, the pen is quite functional and a joy to write with. To fill with ink, rotate the lock ring so it is "open", press the crescent, and the pen will suck up the ink when you let go of it. Then, slide the lock ring carefully back through the bar's crescent arch.
It has the monogram CML and 1916 on it.
This pen is from a smoke free environment. Thank you for looking and enjoy your day!
